RAC Ontario Sections Bulletin for April 1st, 2023

RAC Ontario Sections Bulletin for April 1st, 2023

Official Bulletin Station for Radio Amateurs of Canada with this week’s bulletin.

1.  Technical Problems with RAC Online Payment System

We are currently experiencing technical issues with our online payment processing system.
As a result, we are not able to process payment for Amateur Radio course registrations or
for memberships. We continue to accept registrations for the Basic Amateur Radio Course
and will process the payments once the technical issues have been resolved.
If you are trying to renew your RAC membership or join us, thank you for doing so. We would
be happy to process the payment if you can call our Office Manager Adam MacDonell at
1-877-273-8304 (toll-free).
We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience while our IT volunteers
look into this matter.
— Alan Griffin, RAC MarCom Director

2.  Ontario QSO Party – April 15/16, 2023

The OQP is fast approaching. We would like to get all multipliers on the air this year.
Last year there were no entries submitted from the City of Brantford, City of Brant, Bruce County,
City of Chatham-Kent, Cochrane District, Dufferin County, Town of Haldimand, Kenora District,
Manitoulin District, Muskoka District, Rainy River District, United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry, and Temiskaming District. If you plan to operate from one of these multipliers,
please drop us a line at: http://va3cco.com/oqp/plan.htm and we will be pleased to add you
to the list. Don’t forget that the Michigan QSO Party overlaps on Saturday and the Quebec QSO
Party overlaps on Sunday. Thanks for putting Ontario on the air!

4. Registration for the RAC Basic Summer 2023 is now underway!

Radio Amateurs of Canada is once again offering an online Amateur Radio course so that individuals
from all across Canada can obtain their Amateur Radio Operator Certificate with Basic Qualification.
The course will again be conducted with the assistance of the Annapolis Valley Amateur Radio Club
(AVARC) of Nova Scotia.
This course prepares students for the Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED)
Basic Qualification Level Operator Certificate exam to operate on allocated Amateur Radio frequencies.
It is open to everyone across Canada and even abroad. Classes will be recorded, so occasional absences
are not a problem.
Date: The course will be held on Thursdays and Sundays commencing on Sunday, April 23 and
ending in late June 2023.
Time: Classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 6 pm to 9 pm (1800 – 2100) Eastern Time and
Sunday afternoons 1 pm to 4 pm (1300 – 1600) Eastern Time.
There may also be a handful of additional classes if necessary.
Cost: The registration fee for the course is $50 plus GST/HST. The cost of the Basic Study Guide is
extra and an order link will be provided upon completion of payment.
It is essential that all students have the necessary equipment and bandwidth capable of taking the course
– at least a tablet or PC and a DSL broadband connection.
– See the RAC Website for full details.

Note: I really tried to find an “April Fools” item for this year – maybe next year.
This concludes this week’s bulletin.
